Google’s Android mobile operating-system flows past Apple's iPhone and Canada's Blackberry in the third quarter to become the second most smartphone platform after Nokia's Symbian, study firm Gartner stated Wednesday.Gartner stated Finland's Nokia sold 29.5 million smartphones through the third quarter of the year for a 36.6 % share from the globally market, losing from 44.6 % last year.Sales associated with Android-powered smartphones rises to 20.5 million units, providing the Android system the 25.5 % share of the market, upward through just 3.5 % a year ago, Gartner stated.Apple's iPhone had been next on sales of 13.5 million units for any 16.7 percent market share, loose from 17.1 percent last year.

Canada's Research in Motion, producer of the Blackberry, was in fourth place with sales of 11.9 million units. Blackberry’s share of the market felled to 14.8 percent from 20.7 percent last year.Microsoft's Windows Mobile noticed sales of 2.2 million models passing on a 2.8 percent share of the market, lower from 7.9 percent last year, Gartner said."Smartphone (operating-system) companies possess entered a era of faster platform progression, triggered by more normal products free, new system entrants and new device types,” stated Roberta Cozza, primary research analyst from Gartner.

"Any platform that fails to innovate rapidly -- also through an exciting multi-player environment or clear vision of the single managing organization -- will lose designers, manufacturers, prospective partners and eventually users."Gartner said universal mobile phone sales wrecked 417 million units in the third quarter, upward 35 % from a year ago.Smartphone sales increased 96 % in to 81 million units and accounted 19.3 percent of general mobile phone sales in the quarter.
